This was the first operating ski area in New York. Originally opened with no tows, skiing began here on January 26, 1936, The following year, a rope tow was installed to a mid-point on the mountain. Eventually, four rope tows serviced a total vertical drop of 440 feet. This start-up relied completely on natural snowfall yet operated every year it was open.
